Description

The waves come in layers — deep navy at the horizon, pushing through cobalt and teal, breaking into white foam as they reach the shore. “Blue Surge” captures that moment when the lake feels alive, when the water moves with purpose and weight.

This 40 x 30″ original is part of the Wave Over Me collection, built with the same textured approach that defines the series. Real sand from New Buffalo Beach is worked directly into the lower portion of the canvas, blending the painted shoreline into something you can feel. The foam lines between each wave carry their own texture — raised and dimensional, catching light the way real whitecaps do.

The palette moves through the full range of Lake Michigan blues. Deep navy anchors the top edge, darkening almost to charcoal where the water runs deepest. Cobalt and royal blue push forward through the middle bands, cooling into teal and seafoam as the waves flatten toward shore. The sandy base grounds the whole composition, pulling warm tones into an otherwise cool piece.

Vertical orientation gives the waves room to stack — this isn’t a calm day at the beach. It’s the surge after a storm, the lake reminding you what it’s capable of.
